About Me

My photo
Hello, My name is Sharlinda Faith B. and I'm 25 years old. I have been a wife to my husband Nick for three and half years, and I am also a proud mother of our 3 year old son Lil Nick Jr. I'm the oldest of four children born to my black father and white mother. I'm also their only girl! Growing up our parents always told us we were mixed race and to be proud of both our heritages. Over the years my brothers and I have faced racism from both ends of the spectrum, but that never changed how we viewed ourselves. Time and Time again I've had to answer questions about my racial background, or have people angrily challenge me on how I define myself! These experiences along with the desire to know about others like me, lead me to read anything I could on the web about being biracial. I remember it as being one of the most amazing revelations in my life to find others who embraced both heritages just like I did! These last few years I have wanted to voice my opinions to the others. If enough people like me don't speak up then the world will never change.

Sulfate Free Products and Curly Girl.

Lately, I've been reading about the curly girl method which comes from Lorraine Massey the author of Curly Girl. It involves using mild cleansers with no sulfates and is also referred to as "no-poo". I noticed my hair looking quite dull and I figured this was worth a try. Apparently sulfates are in other harsh soaps like dish washing liquid or laundry detergent and strip the hair of all its natural oils. It's not necessary to to use sulfate in your hair to get it clean. I decided to try a sulfate free cleanser called Hair One which you can purchase at your local Sally's for about 8.99. It's a an herbal cleanser and conditioner in one. It was odd to me at first to have no suds in my hair,  but my scalp still felt clean nevertheless, and my hair is already looking less dull!

If you would like to read more about the curly girl method check out this article on wikihow.

Dep Sport Gel

For a long time I had stayed away from all hair gel. It seemed like every on that I tried made my hair very stiff, sticky, and dry. Recently I picked up some cheap hair gel from Wal-mart for husband so he could spike his hair a little in the front. It's called Dep Sport : Enduring Marathon Hold 11. One day I was running out of my usual hair products and decided to give hair gel a try once more and putting it only in the ends of my curls. What I thought was just some cheap old hair gel actually worked wonders. The stuff is 100% alcohol free and does leave my hair looking white and flaky or stiff. I put it in my hair with some conditioner when wet. My curls stay defined and in place but it stays soft and still moves! I've used half a bottle already.Great product for only 1.97!

New Fav Product! Garnier Fructis Serum

Right before Christmas my family and I ended up having to drive to Chicago because my Granddad passed away. As it is with all  trips, the whole family was rushing around , making sure we had all the necessities. I didn't have much money to spend since our trip there was so last minute, so I of course went through the Wal-mart aisle searching for a good find. I needed a serum that would moisturize and leave my hair looking shiny without making it really greasy. My eyes settled on the Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine anti-frizz serum.I squirted a drop of it on my hands to get a feel of it and see what it smelled like. The serum has fruit micro oils in it , but just enough to make your hair shiny and soft without feeling oily ( should work on most biracial hair but could possibly make the hair more oily if your hair texture is more Caucasian ). I use the serum in my hair wet, dry, curly, or straight. You don't have to use very much of the serum to get it throughout the hair. You can use one full squirt, or two if your hair is extremely thick like mine. It also works as a great heat protectant when straightening with a flat iron. The fragrance in it is strong , so if you don't like strong scents it might not be for you. As for me I really love the fragrance in it. It is pleasant and makes my hair smell wonderful!

Best Products For Curly Hair

This video shows the Devachan Salon and all their products. I must try these!

List of Things to Try

So what's on the agenda? I have heard many things about a new product line called Devchan made entirely with curly girls in mind.  I have heard nothing but goods things about the products so I'm really wanting to try once I can get enough to buy everything at once! They have some videos on Youtube about their products along with some helpful advice.

I've also heard from a co-worker of mine that Paul Mitchell Super Skinny serum is comparable to Bio Silk, but better in her opinion.

I'm sure many are familiar with Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner, but they also have a shampoo and deep conditioning treatment. I'm itching to try these as well.
